After the events of The Smurfs (2011), the tiny blue creatures can't wait to throw the perfect birthday party for beautiful Smurfette. Instead, Gargamel, who lives in Paris and still bears a grudge against the Smurfs, manages to abduct blonde Smurfette with the help of his new evil Smurf-like creations, Vexy and Hackus, bent on learning Papa Smurf's secret spell. So, with time running out, Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity return to New York City and the bustling world of humans to seek help from their old friends, Patrick and Grace Winslow.
