Odd Thomas has a special gift: he can see dead people. Through interacting with dead people he can solve crimes and track down murderers. As part of this gift he can sense impending death through seeing bodachs - invisible creatures that appear when death is imminent. One day bodachs start appearing in massive, vastly-more-than-ever-seen hordes, implying large-scale fatalities.
