Faith Heist (2021) Synopsis
Benjamin Wright is the much loved reverend of the Monroe Baptist Church, with his faithful congregants believing he having done more for the black community than anyone else in the neighborhood. With insufficient funds to make much needed repairs to the church, he decides to mortgage the church to the tune of $50,000 and invest it through milquetoast financial advisor Baxter Whitcomb whose investment in cryptocurrency should yield enough to pay back the loan and make all the repairs to the church. However Benjamin soon discovers that that milquetoast persona is Baxter's sheep clothing covering the true slick wolf underneath as Baxter feigns the money being all gone in the investment having failed in truly defrauding him. While the police are aware of Baxter, they cannot do anything in insufficient evidence including there being no paper trail. Benjamin is up front to the congregation about his error which could cost them the church. Desperate, he contemplates trying to steal the money back from Baxter, he confiding his thoughts solely to congregant Jordan May, a carpet layer who Baxter had only recently learned was a convicted robber in a past life, he now ten years straight. Jordan eventually acquiesces to Benjamin's request to help him in this caper, Jordan doing so for the good of the church which has helped him through difficult times. Jordan believes that Baxter, who is still openly living in town in not fearing any repercussion, has hidden all his money in the state of the art safe in his office, Jordan's plan which requires an additional five people with very specific skills. Those skills seems to match five specific congregants with those skills borne out of passion, those five who also eventually come on board with the plan. Adding to the complications is that they are aware that Special Agent Sheri Sykes with the FBI is monitoring Baxter, they having to evade her detection in the heist. But at the end of the day, they, with the exception of Jordan, are all novices in the crime game, and may require some divine intervention to succeed.—Huggo
