City of the Living Dead (1980) Synopsis
In New York City, reporter Peter Bell, following a lead, believes there's a story to be had regarding a seance that went awry. Although that specific story does not materialize, he does find another concerning the young woman, Mary Woodhouse, at the center of that seance incident, she who, during the seance, saw a vision of a priest who hung himself in a cemetery in a place called Dunwich. Theresa, the medium conducting the seance, informs Peter and Mary that her vision, according to the Book of Enoch, has opened a portal to hell for the dead to emerge, which, if not closed by All Saints Day a few days away, will overtake humanity, meaning its destruction by the evil dead. By the time Peter and Mary arrive in Dunwich, which they discover is in Massachusetts, they find that that destruction has begun, which some of the locals attribute to witchcraft, the talk of which which has pervaded the region for centuries, or to a young man named Bob. Peter and Mary do find a local therapist named Gerry and his assistant Sandra, who too believe what they are told of Mary's vision from what they have witnessed. The foursome have to locate the tomb of the priest, Father Thomas, as the key to closing the portal.—Huggo
